Hello!👋 My name is Kelsey and I am twenty-six. That's me and my little fur family in the pictures on this page.
I earned my Bachelor’s degree in English with a concentration in Literary Studies and a minor in German in December 2015 and my Master’s degree in English with a concentration in Multicultural and Transnational Literature, Film, and Folklore at East Carolina University and a Certificate in Teaching English in the Two-Year College in May 2018!
I am currently a PhD student at ECU studying Rhetoric, Writing, and Professional Communication. See my "Teaching Philosophy" and "Research Agenda" pages (under the "About" menu) for more.
My life revolves around art and academia. I am always working on too many art projects at once, bouncing between mediums, motifs, and styles.
My poetry has been published by Cape Fear Community College’s Spring 2013 edition of Portals and I won the Louise McColl Literary Excellence award. My poem, "mori", was selected by two visual artists as inspiration for their artwork in the Craven County Arts Council Fusion Poetry:Art exhibit in May 2018.
In the summer of 2015, I studied abroad in Ireland and attended the National University of Ireland Maynooth where I took classes on the Great Irish Famine and Irish Literature. I got the opportunity to travel the country, seeing just a fraction of the beauty and history it has to offer. I got to volunteer for a well-deserving charity, learn a little archery, and so much more.
It was my first time abroad and the only way it could have been a better experience was if my dorm room had had a big soaking tub to relax in at night after long days in class or travelling! When I studied abroad with ECU's London program during the summer of 2017, I had a bath tub and bought Epsom salt! It made all the difference. 😂
My favorite novel is Shelley’s Frankenstein and my favorite short story is Gilman’s “The Yellow Wall-paper”. My interests mainly lie in the genres of horror, science fiction, and mystery. I like to study the Victorian era, video games, mythology and folklore, Gothic writing, gender studies, and the German-speaking world, among many other things. 👻
My hobbies other than art and reading include watching TV, playing video games, making videos, and celebrating Halloween year-round. I am also learning archery. I am also interested in the body positivity movement and menswear fashions.
I am a chronically-ill life-long learner, which isn't always easy. At this point, my diagnoses are starting to feel like a laundry list (PCOS, T2 Diabetes, high blood pressure, anxiety disorder, depression), but I am doing my best to keep myself health.
